Dry Ports Services Enterprise made a 46.1 million birr net profit last fiscal year from dry ports activities like loading and unloading cargoes, and temporary storage for import and export cargoes.
The income was obtained from dry port services to 19,125 containers and 526 vehicles. The enterprise had planned to make 93.10 million birr in gross profit in the last fiscal year but earned an actual profit of 91 million birr.
Dry Port Services is currently doing expansion works at a cost of 254 million birr. Expansion includes the construction of a container terminal lying on an 8.6 hectare of land within the Modjo premises of the enterprise.
The enterprise has also planned the construction of 15 million birr, 1000 square metres wide closed container at the dry port in Semera, Afar Regional State.
When completed, the expansion work at Modjo is expected to raise the capacity of the dry port from the current 28,000 containers to 111 thousand containers. The expansion will also include a terminal for storing perishable goods.
The expansion projects are scheduled to be completed next year. And it is expected that the capacity of the Modjo dry port to accommodate import and export cargo will rise by 42 percent.
