International ride-hailing service Yango, a subsidiary of Yango Group, has announced two strategic partnerships in Ethiopia, aimed at enhancing both transportation and healthcare services. The company has teamed up with Awash Bank, one of Ethiopia’s leading financial institutions, and Amakari Doctors, a key player in the telemedicine sector, to bring innovative solutions to commuters and Yango drivers.

The partnership with Awash Bank focuses on promoting digital payments and boosting financial inclusion across Ethiopia. Awash Bank employees and customers will receive a 15% discount on their first three Yango rides, encouraging the adoption of secure and convenient payment methods. Through the integration of Awash Bank’s payment platforms into Yango’s ride-hailing app, passengers and drivers will benefit from seamless and efficient transactions. This collaboration supports the national agenda of expanding access to banking services, particularly for underserved communities.

“We are excited to simplify the payment process for our users through our partnership with Awash Bank,” said Dr. Yekenalem Abebe, Country Manager of Yango in Ethiopia. “This initiative reflects our commitment to providing a smarter and more convenient experience for commuters, while advancing digital payment solutions.”

Kefyalew Shiferaw, Awash Bank’s Chief Digital Banking Officer, expressed similar enthusiasm: “Our collaboration with Yango showcases our dedication to innovation and to supporting Ethiopia’s digital transformation. We are proud to offer secure and accessible financial services to Yango’s growing customer base.”

In addition, Yango has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Amakari Doctors to improve access to healthcare for its drivers. Under the agreement, Amakari Doctors will offer discounted medical services to Yango drivers, with free 30-minute telemedicine consultations covered by Yango. This initiative aims to address the healthcare needs of drivers who spend long hours on the road.
