Ethiopia Exceeds Coffee, Tea, and Spice Export Targets in First Quarter

Ethiopia generated USD 521.98 million from the export of 115,851.77 tons of coffee, tea, and spices in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. This achievement exceeded Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority's initial target of USD 427.10 million from 83,294.25 tons.

Revenue increased by 46%, with an additional USD 165.06 million earned, and export volume rose by 69%, surpassing the target by 48,371.16 tons. In September alone, Ethiopia exported 33,997.27 tons, earning USD 142.51 million, far exceeding the USD 122.94 million target from 24,061.78 tons.

Coffee exports alone accounted for USD 519.02 million from 115,174.75 tons, a 123% revenue increase and a 146% rise in volume compared to the target. Germany led as the top importer, buying 28,398.68 tons (25%) for USD 113.58 million. Saudi Arabia and Belgium followed, importing 16,838.56 tons (15%) and 12,503.69 tons (11%), respectively.

Other major markets, including the U.S., South Korea, Japan, the UAE, Italy, Jordan, and France, collectively made up 78% of Ethiopia's total coffee export revenue and volume. These top ten countries saw a 55% increase in revenue and an 83% rise in export volume compared to the same period last year.
