Ethiopia Secures Over 11 Million USD in Spice Export

The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority secured over USD 11 million in export earnings from spices in the recently concluded Ethiopian Fiscal Year.

Farmers were able to cultivate 443,859 hectares of land, producing over 790,000 tons of spices. The production of spices in the year surpassed the previous year's output by 75,000 tons. Of this, 6,693 tons were exported to various countries, including Saudi Arabia, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Europe generating USD 11.6 million.

Fikadu Adefris, the CEO of the Coffee, Tea, and Spices division at the authority, said that the government had given significant attention to the development of the spice industry during the fiscal year. To enhance spice productivity, the authority has prepared and implemented guidelines and technology packages that cover the entire process from seed to production.

Ethiopia has more than 1.5 million farmers actively involved in spice production. It aims to earn over 16 million USD by exporting 9,342 tons of spices in the current fiscal year.
