Lemi National Cement Factory, located in Ethiopia's Amhara Regional State, Ensaro Woreda, has started offering its cement products to the market as of October 31, 2024.
Situated 130 kilometers north of Addis Ababa, the factory was launched to help stabilize the country's cement market by promptly supplying high-demand products. Equipped with a modern, organized laboratory and staffed with skilled experts, Lemi aims to ensure that its products meet quality standards set by relevant authorities.
At full capacity, Lemi aims to produce 6.4 million tons of cement annually, nearly doubling Ethiopia’s current production levels. This output is expected to create employment opportunities for around 10,000 citizens, making an impact on local employment and economic development.
A joint venture between Ethiopian and Chinese investors, the factory is anticipated to become the largest cement producer in Africa once fully operational.
