Ethiopia: Lemi National Cement Factory to Start Operation in January 2024

CEMENT PRODUCTION

Lemi National Cement Factory is expected to start operation in January 2024. This was revealed during a Government Delegation visit to the factory’s construction site which was led by the Ministry of Urban Development and Infrastructure. Machine installation will commence in June this year after the construction of the factory is finalized.

The factory will produce 4.5 million tons of cement when it become fully operational covering 50% of the country’s cement demand.

Lemi cement project is located in Amhara Regional State, North Shewa Zone, Ensaro Woreda, 130 km north of Addis Ababa. East African Holding S.C. is constructing the factory in collaboration with West China Cement Limited.

Investors are entering Amhara Regional State for cement production. The Mines Resource Development Bureau of the Regional State has already given inspection licenses to 11 investors who would engage in cement manufacturing. On the other hand, the Bureau issued licenses to seven companies including Lemi National Cement Factory which would allow them to start cement production.
