Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has reported revenue of over five billion Birr from electricity sales in the past three months, a figure that demonstrates strong performance in both domestic and international markets.

Domestically, EEP’s primary customer, Ethiopian Electric Utility, accounted for the largest portion of sales, with 9,128.08 megawatt-hours of power generating over 3.29 billion Birr. Additional high-demand clients include major industries and the Ethio-Djibouti Railway, contributing nearly two billion Birr. Overall, EEP achieved 96% of its target, collecting more than 5.22 billion Birr from domestic electricity sales alone.

EEP is also leveraging foreign currency opportunities, with authorization from the National Bank to bill certain institutions in USD. This quarter, more than 27 million USD was generated from entities such as data centers operating in Ethiopia.

Regionally, Ethiopia sold electricity to Djibouti, Sudan, and Kenya, with a total of 169,710.91 megawatt-hours provided to Djibouti, 13,185.50 megawatt-hours to Sudan, and 314,931.38 megawatt-hours to Kenya. These exports generated over 31 million USD, with Sudan’s contribution falling short due to ongoing security issues impacting payments.
