Ethiopian Water Project 90% Complete

The Tendaho Drinking Water Supply Project, Ethiopia is 90% complete according to Kumelachew Abebe, Communications and Public Relations Process Owner with the Ethiopian Water Works Construction Enterprise.

The project is expected to take 97 million birr and will be utilized by the nomadic Afar peoples and the employees of the Tendaho Sugar Development project, a total of almost 70,000 people in the area around the project.

The Tendaho Dam and Irrigation Project management buildings, also being constructed by the EWWCE, are also 90% complete at an estimated cost of 200 million birr said Kumelachew.

The management buildings, consisting of sales facilites, warehouses and offices, are in the final stages of the finishing process with doors and windows being installed and ceramics being fitted he said.

The EWWCE is also undertaking the Tendaho Sugar Development Project, a part of the Tendaho Dam and Irrigation Project which aims to irrigate 60,000 hectares of sugarcane.

The Ethiopian Water Works Construction Enterprise is a state operated company that is currently engaged in various potable water projects, medium and large scale dam construction, building construction and dry port construction around the country.

The current EWWCE projects are estimated to be worth more than 3.1 billion birr and include significant initiatives like the Gidabo Dam and Irrigation Project, Fincha Sugar Development Project and the Kesem Kebenna Dam and Irrigation Project.
