The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, and National Oil Ethiopia jointly announced the launch of two digital applications, CBE Birr and Fuel Up, that facilitate the payment of fuel transactions with the aim of modernizing the fuel payment system.

CBE Birr was previously utilized for various payments and it has now been updated to include a fuel payment system in addition to its previous services while Fuel Up is a new app developed by the bank for this purpose.
The applications became operational in Addis Ababa on April 24, 2023. There are plans to expand the services of these applications to a national level in the near future.

It is to be recalled that CBE and EagleLion Systems Technology Company launched a mobile phone application called Nedaj in August last year together. It was expected that the application would allow customers of the bank to carry out fuel transactions digitally.
