Ethiopia to Host Global Animal Husbandry Expo

Business Forum

Addis Ababa will host the Animal Husbandry Value Chain Exhibition and Conference from October 31 to November 2 at Millennium Hall, gathering over 100 exhibitors from 14 countries alongside more than 5,000 industry professionals.

Organized by Prana Events, the expo, themed “Livestock: Now and the Future; Current Opportunities, Challenges, and the Way Forward,” aims to foster innovation and sustainable growth in Ethiopia’s livestock industry.

Prana Events’ Managing Director, Nebeyu Lemma, highlighted that the event will feature cutting-edge technologies and solutions to address productivity, boost market linkages, and attract investment. The Netherlands Pavilion returns for the third year, underscoring ongoing international cooperation and knowledge exchange within the sector.

Tsigereda Fekadu, Executive Lead for Livestock and Fisheries at the Ministry of Agriculture, introduced the government’s Yelimat Tirufat initiative, a four-year effort to enhance dairy, poultry, and honey production to meet local demand. She emphasized that while Ethiopia has one of Africa’s largest livestock populations, increasing productivity remains a key focus requiring sustainable practices.

The three-day conference will underscore livestock’s role in Ethiopia’s economy, benefiting rural households and supporting food security through key products like meat, milk, leather, and wool for both domestic use and export.
