Addis Ababa City Administration and China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) have signed an agreement to develop a state-of-the-art Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Gotera, a neighborhood in the capital city.

The project aims to attract more foreign visitors to Addis Ababa and strengthen the city's role in international economic activities. By establishing the SEZ, the city administration hopes to create favorable conditions for investment, trade, and economic growth, further enhancing Addis Ababa's global economic significance.

The SEZ will be built on land allocated by the city administration at the current lease rate. It will encompass a variety of zones, including educational and cultural areas, financial and business districts, and modern residential quarters.
