Ethiopia: Vehicle Sales and Loan Agreements Account for 89% of DARS’ Revenue

The Documents Authentication and Registration Service (DARS) has announced that it has processed 897,071 cases and received over Birr 1.77 billion in the 2022/2023 fiscal year. Alemshet Meshesha, the service's Public Relations and Communication Director, stated that they had achieved their set plan for the period.

DARS has served more than 1.5 million customers across various sectors without an appointment. The service was able to collect 167% of its set plan by generating revenue from various service sectors. A significant portion of the revenue was generated from vehicle sales and loan agreements, which accounted for 89.1% of the total revenue.

DARS has also taken action against individuals suspected of using fake documents, submitting criminal charges to the police in 121 cases and preventing 1,733 fake pieces of evidence from being used, with 87% being fake IDs. The institution is working with regional states, federal police, Addis Ababa police, and other judicial bodies to prevent crime.
