Ethiopia: Mekele Industrial Park Poised for Revival

Mekelle Industrial Park

Mekele Industrial Park has completed preparatory works and is now ready to resume full operations, according to Fitsum Ketma, the Head of Transformation Department at the Industrial Parks Development Corporation of Ethiopia (IPDC). Fitsum emphasized that IPDC had been working diligently by sending a team to Mekele city to monitor the status of the Industrial Park and undertake necessary preparatory works to restore it to full operations.

After the peace agreement was signed between the Federal Government of Ethiopia and Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front (TPLF) on November 2, 2022, IPDC’s team confirmed that the Industrial Park was undamaged during the conflict, and the investors' property and machinery remained safe. This critical finding is essential to reinstate the park's full operation and bring back investors.

Effective measures have been taken to attract new investors to the park, and following consultations with IPDC, previous investors have expressed willingness to return to the park. The Official noted that these efforts are pivotal to reviving Mekele Industrial Park.
