Abu Dhabi hosted the Ethio-UAE Business Forum which was attended by Ethiopia’s Investment Commission (EIC) Commissioner, Lelisie Neme, and Ethiopia’s Ambassador to the UAE, Oumer Hussein.
The Commissioner briefed the participants of the forum about investment opportunities in Ethiopia and the country’s policies towards investment. Participants were assured of Ethiopia’s readiness to accept and provide support for investors.
Lelise Neme also held discussions with a group of key UAE investors under the theme “Business Opportunities in Ethiopia”. The investors were briefed about the support available for investors in Ethiopia and reforms the country was undergoing.
It is to be recalled that EIC and Dubai International Chamber of Commerce agreed in January this year to form an alliance to promote Ethiopia to investors in Dubai. EIC and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Ethiopia have also reached an understanding to attract more UAE investments to Ethiopia.
Trade relations between Ethiopia and UAE within the past five years was registered to be more than USD 2.5 billion. Accordingly, Ethiopia’s export to the UAE between 2016 and 2020 was more than USD 650 million while its imports during the same period surpassed USD 1.8 billion.
