Ethiopia: Ethio Telecom Secures Birr 33.8 Billion Revenue in the First Half of the 2022/2023 Fiscal Year

Ethio Telecom earned a revenue of Birr 33.8 billion during the first half of the current fiscal year while increasing the number of its subscribers to 70 million. Out of the 70 million subscribers, 67.7 million are users of the Company’s mobile voice service. The number of subscribers for data and internet has reached 31.3 million.

The Company started applying a new strategy called Lead this fiscal year which will be applicable for the coming three years. Under the first six months of the new strategy, Ethio Telecom was able to increase its subscriber base by 9.2 million and its revenue by Birr 5.6 billion compared to the same period in the 2021/2022 fiscal year.

Ethio Telecom’s digital financial service, Telebirr, gained 27.2 million customers and transacted a total of Birr 166.1 billion during the past six months. It also generated an income of Birr 82.5 million.

The State-owned telecom company started implementing Lead Strategy on July 01, 2022 aiming to provide services beyond connectivity, enable inclusive growth by providing digital and financial services, and simplify the daily activities of organizations and individuals. Lead substituted the telecom’s strategy named Bridge which was implemented between 2019 and 2022.

In the 2022/2023 fiscal year, Ethio Telecom plans to increase its subscriber base by 10.3% to reach 73.5 million. The company also aims to raise the number of its mobile voice customers by 10.5% to reach 71 million and its fixed broadband customers by 37.4% to reach 696.7 thousand.
