Ernst and Young to Present Study on Economic Growth Corridors in Ethiopia

Ernst and Young is to present the first phase of a study it conducted towards the development of a national framework for Economic Growth Corridors in Ethiopia on the 23rd of December, at the Hilton Hotel.

The study will be expected to define concepts related to Economic Growth Corridors, establish criteria for identifying them including the legal, organization, institutional and coordination procedures related to identification. The study will also deal with establishing and operating EGCs at the regional and federal levels.

It is expected that a phase by phase approach for the development of the national framework will serve as a map to harness economic potential in all regions in Ethiopia.

Ernst and Young secured the study in tender put up in August of 2010 for the development of a framework and strategy to identify, establish and operate Economic Growth Corridors in Ethiopia.

The company has delivered the first phase of the study to the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance and Economic Development according to sources.

Ernst and Young will be paid an estimated 20 million for this study.

The development of the national framework and strategy, which is being implemented under the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development is supported by the United Nations Development Program and is being funded through the Enhanced Economic Growth Program.

The framework is expected to enhance national knowledge of Economic Growth Corridors to strengthen institutions at the regional and federal levels and to support their operation and allow for detailed investment plans towards strengthening private and public investment.
