During a conference themed “Sustainable Textile Investment and Operation in Ethiopia”, Industry Minister Melaku Alebel stated that Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector earned USD 500 million in the 2021/2022 fiscal year. The textile sub-sector contributed USD 181.4 million to the total earning.
According to the Minister, Ethiopia plans to increase the export of products from the manufacturing sector to USD 538 million while increasing the contribution of the textile sector to USD 250 million.
Zhao Zhiyuan, China’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, on his part, noted that his country’s investment in the Ethiopian textile sector reached USD 450 million. He stated that there were currently 30 Chinese textile companies in Ethiopia.
The Ministry of Commerce of China, Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, and Ethiopian Ministry of Industry organized the conference which will be held for two days.
