Ethiopian Electric Power Inks Deal with Chinese Company TBEA for Purchase of GIS Switchgear

eep-tbea-gis-switchgear-agreementEthiopian Electric Power (EEP) announced it has signed a framework agreement for the purchase of GIS Switchgears with the Chinese Company TBEA Co., Ltd. Inking the $16.4 million purchase agreement were Ashebir Balcha, EEP's CEO and David Hao, TBEA's representative.

The agreement is for a three-year usage of 15 and 33 kilo-volt GIS switchgear, it has been learned. The purchase aims to see faulty GIS switchgear at various transmission stations replaced with new ones.

The purchase and installation of new GIS switchgear will help address the issue of recurrent power outages, as well as reduce maintenance costs, EEP related.

The first round of purchases will be conducted over a period of six months and targets the replacement of eighteen 15KV and twenty-six 33KV GIS switchgear replaced.

During the three-year period, the framework agreement is aimed to replace over sixty-five 15KV and 33KV transmission station GIS switchgear with new ones.

The purchase is estimated to cost over $16.4 million and it is to be fully covered by EEP.
