The Ethiopian Diaspora Agency announced that Ethiopian diaspora from all over the globe have sent home $1.1 billion during the past three months via legal means.
Wendwossen Girma, Communications Director at the Agency, said the amount of remittances the diaspora send home is increasing from time to time.
During the previous Ethiopian fiscal year that ended on July 7, 2021, the amount of remittance sent home during the year amounted to $3.6 billion. The amount of remittances in the first quarter of this fiscal year is nearly equal to a third of that amount, Mr. Wendwossen remarked.
Mr. Wendwossen also pointed out that during the period the diaspora has handed 125 million birr in support of various humanitarian and rehabilitation efforts, as well as in support of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF).
