MPs Say Ethiopia is "Keen" to Join WTO

Members of the Trade and Industry Affairs Standing Committee of the Ethiopian Parliament said Ethiopia is "keen" to join the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The members of parliament told this to a WTO delegation during their discussion in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The main topic of the discussion has been Ethiopia's ascension 

The discussion mainly focused on Ethiopia’s accession to the Organization. Alan Wolff (Ambassador), Deputy Director-General of WTO headed the delegation.

Members of the Standing Committee told Ambassador Alan Wolff, Deputy Director-General of WTO and head of the delegation, that Ethiopia is keen to join the organization.

Ambassador Wolff told the MPs that he is hopeful Ethiopia’s bid to become a member of WTO will get an answer before the year's end. Joining WTO would help the country to achieve Agenda 2030, he further noted.

Ethiopia resumed talks to join WTO (the World Trade Organization) after eight years

To this end, Mamo Mihretu, Senior Advisor and Chief Trade Negotiator at the Ethiopian Prime Minister's Office, had met with Roberto Azevedo, Director-General of WTO, in Geneva, Switzerland, in January this year.
