Ethiopia resumes talks to join WTO (the World Trade Organization) after eight years.
Mamo Mihretu, Senior Advisor and Chief Trade Negotiator at the Ethiopian Prime Minister's Office, has met with Roberto Azevedo, Director-General of WTO, in Geneva, Switzerland. The two discussed ways of speeding up the process in Ethiopia’s longstanding efforts to join the multilateral trading system.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had set up a 10-member national committee to resume the negotiation last June. Members of the committee come from the Prime Minister's Office, and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Revenues, Finance, and Trade and Industries. Representatives from the National Bank of Ethiopia and the National Planning and Development Commission are also members of the committee.
Mamo Mihretu chairs the committee.
