Ethiopian Business Forum will be held in Qatar on February 3, 2020, at the Millennium Hotel in Doha. The business forum will be hosted by the Ethiopian Embassy in Qatar.
Samia Zekaria, Ethiopia's ambassador to Qatar, said the Ethiopian Embassy will join hands with the Qatari company KON in organizing the event.
Participants of the forum will be briefed on business and investment opportunities available in Ethiopia, the ambassador said. Noting that the relationship between Qatar and Ethiopia is “growing steadily and fruitfully,” Ambassador Samia said the forum will have a role to play in helping deepen relations between business sectors of both sides.
A high-level delegation representing the Ethiopian public and private sectors will be at the forum to brief the participants about potential strategic partnerships in the following sectors: agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, pharmaceuticals, and industrial, among others, the ambassador said.
“We are very eager to bring businessmen to Ethiopia, particularly those from Qatar, because of the availability of a wide range of investment opportunities in various sectors of the economy,” she said in an interview with the Gulf Times on Monday.
“I would like to invite the businessmen in Qatar to see and explore the investment opportunities available in Ethiopia. Currently, the plan is to create awareness in Qatar, but in the future, there may be initiatives to bring an Ethiopian trade delegation to Qatar for B2B meetings with their Qatari counterparts,” Mrs. Samia said. She further noted that plans are under study to institutionalize the forum, so it becomes an annual event.
Hissa al-Suwaidi, KON partner and chairperson, for her part, said her company aims to contribute to Qatar’s economic development by bridging the gap between companies in Qatar and their international counterparts.
The Ethiopian Embassy in Qatar also hopes to attract more foreign direct investment via creating awareness about opportunities in Ethiopia at the business forum.
