gedu-abiy-kenyattaThe Debre Birhan Industrial Park, which rests on 1,100 hectares of land, has been inaugurated. The industry park stands with eight production sheds completed, the office of the Prime Minister said in a tweet.

Inaugurating the industry park was Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, joined by Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and Gedu Andargachew, President of Amhara Region. The fact that President Kenyatta joined the inauguration, which follows similar ones with the leaders of other East African countries, marks the continued strengthening of relations and regional integration, the office of the Prime Minister further noted.

The Debre Birhan Industry Park, built at a cost of more than $75 million, is part of Ethiopia’s ongoing effort to have thirty industry parks that will help transform the country into a manufacturing hub and middle income economy by 2025. So far, five industry parks have been built and commissioned. This newly inaugurated industry park is expected to create job opportunities for about a thousand people.

President Kenyatta praised Prime Minister Abiy for his leadership in spearheading his country’s changes, and further expressed Kenya’s commitment to support the vision of prosperity and unity in the region.
