Addis Ababa to Conduct Second Re-registration for House Seekers

Second re-registration for the 10/90 and 20/80 condominium housing schemes in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is going to take place, Addis Fortune reported.

The first registration was conducted in 2013 when new People were registered for 10/ 90 and 20/80 condominium housing scheme together with the old ones who first registered in 2005. 835,000 newly registered people had saved 11 billion Birr in the two schemes.

In order to confirm the ownership of the houses, those who had already taken their houses will be registered, said Deputy Head of the Addis Ababa Housing Development Administration Agency Halima Badgeba.

Only 960 people are in the 10/90 scheme from 35,000 beneficiaries of the latest draw in April 2015. Eight percent of the owners could not pay for the ten percent or 20 percent advance payment, said Head of Communication Affairs at the Agency Wondale Befekadu.

According to Wondale, the Agency will fix 117 registration stations across Addis Ababa. When the re-registration is on, reshuffling from more expensive to lower schemes is possible. Yet, going from lower to more expensive schemes is prohibited, said Wondale.

Starting from round one condominium distribution, 147,000 people had became beneficiaries.
