Ethiopia to Conduct first Inter-censal Population Survey

Ethiopia is to conduct the first national Inter-censal Population Survey announced the the Central Statistics Agency.

The Inter-censal survey is usually conducted between major population censuses explained Samia Zekaria, Director General of the CSA. Developing countries like Ethiopia, which carries out population and housing surveys every ten years, conduct inter-censal surveys in the middle to acquire population sample data to fill the information gap she said.

The main objectives of this particular survey are to update the 2008 official census to obtain economic and social statistics and to gain information on population dynamics according to Samia. The survey will cover 7,453 scientifically selected areas in all parts of the country except Somali Regional State.

The census locations of 4150 spots chosen to verify the 2008 Amhara Regional State Population census and 2609 spots in Addis Ababa said Samia. The results will be released at the Woreda level in the Amhara Regional State and Addis Ababa City while it will be released at the state level in other regions explained Samia.

More than 81.2 million birr has been allocated for the survey with 63.5 million birr was provided by the Ethiopian government said the Director General. The deployment of the census teams will begin on the 29th of May and the survey will be conducted for ten days she said.     

The public is expected to accommodate the taking of the census urged Samia.
