The Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority (ECTA) announced that May saw a significant surge in coffee exports, with over 43,481 tons shipped and a revenue of USD 209.54 million. This surpasses targets and represents the highest volume and revenue for a single month in the past three years.

In the first 11 months of the fiscal year, the country exported a total of 252,466.98 tons of coffee, generating USD 1.208 billion.

ECTA credits this success to collaboration across the coffee supply chain, including farmers, suppliers, and exporters. Additionally, the Authority implemented various strategies to improve production, productivity, and marketing within the sector. A key factor has been the streamlining of marketing processes, eliminating unnecessary steps and creating a more efficient framework.

Currently, 80-90% of Ethiopia's coffee exports are conducted through a direct marketing system managed by suppliers and exporters. This approach, initiated in the 2020/21 fiscal year, has significantly improved export volume, revenue, and coffee quality.

ECTA has also focused on expanding market access for Ethiopian coffee. New markets such as China, the United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Japan, and Sudan have been successfully targeted, diversifying Ethiopia's customer base. International exhibitions and coffee tasting competitions have further bolstered the global profile of Ethiopian coffee.

To maintain this momentum, the ECTA plans to continue supporting major exporters, securing new contracts, and fostering collaboration with regional partners.
