Doctor Girma Amente, Minister for Public Enterprises, disclosed Ethiopia would stop the import of sugar from the coming fiscal year.
The newly constructed Omo Kuraz I and II as well as Beles I sugar factories were scheduled to commence production this month, Girma added.
The government was also undertaking work on other sugar factories to undertake full scale sugar production, the Minister noted. He also explained that the Ministry was revising its plan to avoid further delays in the construction of 10 new sugar factories.
According to Girma, Ethiopia aims at the export market, in addition to quitting the import of sugar.
