Japan is willing to assist the undergoing geothermal development in Ethiopia, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) stated.
JICA Representative Maymu Hayashi speaking at the opening of a geothermal development workshop on November 04, 2015, said his country is willing to support Ethiopia generate additional geothermal energy.
According to the Representative, JICA has completed maps for 22 geothermal sites in Ethiopia.
Japanese companies will come to Ethiopia to invest in energy sector, he added.
Geological Survey of Ethiopia (GSE) Director-General, Masresha Gebreselassie said Ethiopia will begin expansion activities to generate 70 MW from Aluto Langano. The geothermal master plan preparation is being undertaken, he added.
Japan is extending new technologies, skill, knowledge, finance and appraisal studies to Ethiopia to generate electricity from geothermal, Masresha said.
Japan is the third geothermal energy producer in the world.
