The Addis Ababa Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations (AACCSA) has awarded on October 20, 2015, certificates of accomplishment to 16 companies that has acquired certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) at Sheraton Addis Hotel.

The certification project was supported by UK Department for International Development (DfID) and the World Bank. There were 20 companies that had accepted AACCSA’s invitation to join the certification project for ISO 9000:2008 for quality management and 22000:2005 for food safety management respectively.

Gebeyehu Zerihun, AACCSA’s Quality Management Service Manager, said the whole certification process took 18 months; 15 months for training and three months for assuring the respective standards were met.

Ethiopian Standards Agency (ESA) and Germany’s Standardization Company named DQS had undertaken the work of assuring the standards.

Of the 16 companies, 14 were issued with ISO 9001:2008 standards and the other two with ISO 22000:2005.

Gebeyehu said AACCSA earlier had facilitated the standardization process of 22 companies which took over two years. And these companies were certified in 2013.

AACCSA has received the ISO 9000:2008 standardization on February 15, 2013.
