Ethiopian Power Engineering Industry (EPEI) that operates under Metals and Engineering Corporation (METEC) unveiled its plan on Sunday, May 17, 2015 to export Ethiopian made transformers to neighboring countries within short period of time, Ethiopian Herald reported.
EPEI launched transformer production line at Oromia Regional State’s Burayu Town with Birr 350 million investments on Sunday, May 17, 2015. The line was completed within 20 months and is expected to create 1,200 job opportunities.
EPEI Director General, Major Assefa Yohanes speaking on the inauguration ceremony of Tatek Transformer Production Line said EPEI has produced 12,000 transformers with various capacities and volume and 100,000 kilometer cable for different use.
Tatek Transformer Production Line will have a capacity to manufacture 10,000 transformers with various capacities and volume Major Assefa noted.
Poly Technologies, a Chinese company and METEC partnered in the construction of the line.
EPEI has seven factories together with wire and cable production factory, distribution transformer production, automatic power factory correction and compact substation production, engine production, motor and generator production and turbine production factories.
EPEI was founded as one of the companies under METEC in 2010 and majorly focuses on design, upgrade and manufacturing of electrification machines and equipments.
