Arsho Medical Laboratories (AML) is a registered trademark of a private diagnostic laboratory practice in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. AML is focused on delivering quality diagnostic testing in the most cost-effective way.

AML takes a good percentage share of the private Medical laboratory market in Ethiopia.

 

Historical Overview

The history of Arsho Medical Laboratories extends back to 1972 when the Armenian Dr Arshavier Terzian, immigrated to Ethiopia and formed the first private medical laboratory practice in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Dr. Arshavier practices grew gradually over the years. In time Arsho Medical Laboratory established the medical laboratory practice became a well-known and respected name in the local medical environment. Dr. Arshavier passed away in 2002, then immediately after his death, the business has been taken over by his inheritors, his son and daughter who reside in the USA at the time. In 2004 both the son and daughter transferred their holdings to three Ethiopian nationals and left the business.

The Ethiopian owners with different non-medical (social science) professional backgrounds started to manage the business in collaboration with medical professional staff. Since then they introduced many operational innovations, which contributed significantly to the accelerated growth of the laboratory practice in Addis Ababa.

Since 2004, Arsho Medical Laboratory has been undertaking further expansion of different branches and giving a modern touch to the existing practice. 

Currently, Arsho Medical Laboratory has ISO 15189 Accreditation, by ENAO (Ethiopian National Accreditation Office) since 2012 in four schemes; clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, and immunology.

Services

The general services rendered by Arsho Medical Laboratory cover most disciplines of diagnostic Medical laboratory services i.e. Clinical Chemistry, pathology, Histo - and Cytopathology, Microbiology, Molecular Diagnostics, Serology, Virology and voluntary counseling and testing (VCT). The Director of Diagnostic Medical Laboratory, The Quality Assurance Manager and discipline-specific Laboratory professional’s, coordinators, supervise these services and departments.

Referral Services

Laboratory tests that are not performed (Kinship and Others) in Ethiopia are referring to Bioscientia of Germany and Path Care of South Africa Cellmark UK. With our main business in the city, we also offer outside service (Mobile Service) and have a mobile team especially trained and experienced to undertake this work.

Support Services

Arsho Medical Laboratory employs Professional Nursing and Phlebotomists who are responsible for collecting specimens in the labs, in the customer centers, private hospitals and medical centers.

Specimens are transported from the branches, External customer clinics and hospitals to central laboratories by AML Courier Service.

The Marketing department which is responsible for the day to day activities of customer handling works very hard to meet customer satisfaction.

• Arsho Medical Diagnostic Medical laboratories cannot function without the provision of Supporting Services. The following departments perform indispensable functions that contribute in many ways to the total quality of our service: Administration General Service, Information Technology, Finance, Facility Management, Customer Services, Supplies and Store, and Archive and Records.

Organizational Structure

Arsho Medical Laboratory is led by a Managing Director supported by an Executive Board and Organizational management structure.

The Management Group consists of the Managing Director responsible for the collections Medical Directors, Laboratory Director, Finance & Admin Director, Quality Assurance Manager, Technical Manager, Department Heads, Safety Officer, Branch Managers, IT Manager, and Marketing Group. The Organization Chart of the Company with a particular emphasis on the technical wing is attached herewith.

A Board of Directors ensures control of the Managing Director and management group. The Board consists of three members/Company Owners/. 
The geographical area served by Arsho Medical Laboratory is distributed in Addis Ababa Sub-Cities – Arada, Addis Ketema, Bole, Kirkos and Yeka– all are managed by Branch Managers and supervised by the Lab Director and Finance & Admin Manager.

Facilities and Staff

The Laboratory has 6 Medical laboratories in Addis Ababa Ethiopia. The Head Office and Reference Laboratory are situated at Kirkos Sub-City Meskel flower area; Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
In Arsho Medical laboratories the specimens are processed by the most technologically advanced and automated laboratory equipment. The main Laboratory at Kirkos Sub-City is equipped with state-of-the-art automation for routine analysis of specimens received from all areas and for urgent analysis of specimens from clinics and hospitals. Specimens requiring urgent analysis are given priority.
Currently Arsho Med Lab. has about 200 staff, of which 70 are Medical Professionals Medical Doctors, Pathologist dDoctors, Microbiologists, Laboratory Technologists, Laboratory Technicians and Nurses. They are all experienced specialists in their respective fields.
